How to choose a Charter Boat
Would you have heart surgery performed by a new or inexperienced doctor?
Same is true in choosing a Charter Boat Captain. Ask questions, about them, here are some questions to ask.
- Are you Full time or Part time Captain? What you want to know, is fishing your only job. Most so called captains are only part-time. EXPIRENCE is everything.
- What kind of Boat do you have? Not all boats are built for chartering. Chesapeake Bay Dead rise boats are built for the bay weather. The bigger the better. Make sure it has a head, and plenty of room for your coolers, and most of all, plenty of room to fish.
- Talk to the Captain. Thats right, talk to the Captain thats taking you out fishing
- Ask where they are LOCATED. (Location-location-Location) Many Charter Boat Captains claim they run out of certain areas, Baltimore, Annapolis etc. and they Do Not. If you do pick-up a boat at one of those locations, you have to pay to park. Make sure there is Free Parking.
- Fish Cleaning, ask if it is included or extra. Many Captains do not clean fish.
- Are Families and Kids Welcome. If so, does the boat have a Head (Bathroom)? Do you really want your wife to go in a bucket?
- Most of all ask any questions, if you have never been on a boat before, you should feel comfortable. ASK questions.
